Two Ways to Get It Right (Cam timing that is)


Chain driven cam
Gear driven cam
The "Right" way

Straight from the manual, make sure the marks line up as shown.

These marks correspond to #1 piston at TDC on the compression/power stroke, and #4 piston at TDC on the exhaust/intake stroke.

The "other" right way

Although not "technically" correct, the second set of pictures is mechanically OK, AS LONG AS YOU DON"T INSTALL THE OIL PUMP THIS WAY!

Here, #4 is on the compression stroke, while #1 is on the exhaust stroke

Rotate the crankshaft 360º, and the marks will again line up as in the first pictures.  NOW install the oil pump.
