This subwoofer project began as an accident. One day I was out browsing the audio gear section of Ebay auctions (looking for an amp), when I came across a Hartly 18" NIB.
Years ago I'd had a lust for the big Hartleys (and the EV 30 incher), but never had the money or wherewithall to do anything about it. But now I did, so I started bidding on this one, thinking I'd mount it in the ceiling if I should get it. Well, that didn't happen, but it did get my bass juices flowing again (last time was 1979), and I discovered the BASS List while searching the web for other bass references. The rest is history...
After lurking the BASS list for a while, and having got there too late for the Contra kit offer (damn!), I decided to use the NHT1259s in a stereo pair. Madisound still had some left in February, so I grabbed them while I could.
I've always had an aversion to squat bulky objects, while also having an attraction to tall slender objects, including speakers. This, in conjunction with continually vanishing floor space in the living room, dictated the enclosure design.
The look I wanted was a tower, which, aside from looking good in and of itself, would also function as a stand for decoratives (artwork, plants, etc).
